Amyloid Assembly Kinetics, Cracked
Jackey, our post doc with appointments in ours and Martha Grover's Lab, published "Kinetic model for two-step nucleation of peptide assembly" in the Journal of Physical Chemistry.
We spend a lot of time thinking about the structure and function of peptide assembly, but we also care about how they build themselves too. Jackey's simulations and experimental results show that metastable particles are a crucial step in the ordering of amyloids.
Nicely done, Jackey!
Monomeric peptide collapses into metastable particles. However, only the larger particles provide the environment necessary for fibrilization.
